Berkeley MPEG Tools

This directory contains the Berkeley MPEG Tools distribution. You should start with the most recent FAQ. Some information is included in the distribution, but you can also get more information by visiting our WWW site (http://bmrc.berkeley.edu/mpeg/) which includes links to introductory material on MPEG, freely distributed movies, and other software.

This version of the Berkeley MPEG Tools packages together the decoder (mpeg_play), the encoder (mpeg_encode), and three analysis tools (mpeg_stat, mpeg_blocks, and mpeg_bits).

A recently published paper updates the original MPEG-1 video decoder paper published at ACM Multimedia 1993. It describes the tools and other facts about the Berkeley MPEG Research activities. A pre-publication version of the paper is available at the following webpage.
